Presented

Presented means the patient received a treatment plan with a fee attached.

A plan with no fee on it is a conversation, not a presentation. The fee is the thing the patient has to decide about, and a consultation that ends without one has deferred the decision rather than asked for it.

Roughly 90 percent of patients who show are still clinical and financial candidates once the clinician has looked, so most shown consultations reach a presentation. The gap between presented and started is where case acceptance actually lives.

What is included and what is excluded

Counts

  • A written or verbal treatment plan with a total fee stated
  • A staged plan where each stage carries a fee
  • A plan presented to a patient who declines on the spot

Does not count

  • A consultation that ends with the fee to follow later
  • A range quoted without a plan attached to it
  • A patient found not to be a clinical candidate at the chair

A worked example

12.75 patients show for a consultation.

  1. 01Showed: 12.75
  2. 02Still a clinical and financial candidate at the chair: 90 percent
  3. 0312.75 x 0.90 = 11.48

11.48 patients received a treatment plan with a fee attached.

How this differs from

  • Showed

Showing is attendance. Presented means the fee was actually put on the table.

  • Started

Presented is the offer. Started is the acceptance, signed and funded.

  • Consult to start rate

Consult to start rate measures shown consultations, so a plan with no fee still counts against it.
